12 April: family history: tracing Rosita Forbes

Robert Griffiths writes to ask if I know the first name of my great-great grandmother, who married Duncan Graham, the woman who was the mother of Herbert Torr, and the grandmother of Eila and Rosita Torr (the explorer Rosita Forbes).

The short answer is that I don't have clue - but there are plenty of people on the web who may have the answer, if so, do please let me know.

Robert continues with further information, all new to me:

'You may already know this but the Grahams came from Glasgow and were partners in Graham and Rowe of Liverpool, trading to Iberia and Latin America. Graham's Port was started by one of them when he had to accept a cargo of port as settlement for a bad debt. They were later bought out by the Symingtons who were originally employees.'

'All their old account books are on show behind glass in Grahams in Oporto.'

There's a little bit on Sita in my family history pamphlet here (the information on her ancestry, I now know, is almost certainly wrong).
