17 October 2005: Some quotes about me

You could call it an exercise in gross vanity (so not that different from having a personal website or a blog, really), but I was looking around the web and found a few quotes about my work, which I thought I'd stick together in one place. If you go through my books page, you will see plenty of reviews, friendly and hostile alike. Here are some briefer ones:

Martin Blinkhorn, 'I was intrigued by Dr Abse's juxtaposition of Fascism and the Right in Europe with the work of others whose reservations on the subject of 'generic fascism' I have come to share: notably the forthright Dave Renton and the pugnacious MacGregor Knox'

From an exam paper set by David Baker at Warwick, "Dave Renton's recent book (Fascism, 1998) illustrates very well the manner in which most neo-marxist theories of fascism have continued to place undue emphasis on its relationship with capitalism and particularly big business, so downplaying its important ideological and political genesis." Discuss.

And my personal favourite: 'We are aware of Dr Renton's work in this field and believe that his editorial input does not meet the academic standards of impartiality in educational fields'.  John Warburton, for 'The Friends of Oswald Mosley', 11 May 2001.
