Fascism

I have been writing about fascism and anti-fascism since the mid 1990s. Several of my books have been on these themes, including This Rough Game, Fascism, Anti-Fascism and the 1940s, and Fascism: Theory and Practice. Below are links to recent articles looking at the history of fascism and anti-fascism, or the threat posed by far-right parties in recent years:

On anti-fascism
Towards a Marxist Theory of Fascism

The political economy of fascism
A Provisional History of Anti-Fascism in Britain: The Forties
Fascism and Labour Government
The Anti-Nazi League in 1970s Britain
Anti-fascism in the North-West 1976-1982
August 1977: the Battle of Lewisham
Southall and the Death of Blair Peach
Explaining the success of the British National Party (BNP) 1999-2003

I have also put up here links to a course I used to teach at Nottingham Trent University, on the history of fascism in Britain and Europe. I've put here the reading list and the lecture notes for that course. These materials were largely written by Dr. David Baker (now at Warwick University), but the teaching of the course was a joint project.

Here are also are my own memories of the 1993 demonstration at Welling; ditto of speaking at a 2006 demonstration against Nick Griffin, plus thoughts on the BNP's 2006 election results.
